Turbochargers, exhaust systems, even wastegates radiate a lot of heat into the engine compartment and damage the components in their vicinity. Therefore, these components should be thermally insulated to absorb up to 600°C of radiated heat. Furthermore, this stored heat helps to keep the exhaust gas volume high and thus bring the turbocharger up to speed earlier.
